Saint Francis Health System Winter 2019 / Spring 2020 Nurse Extern Programs in Tulsa, Oklahoma
WINTER 2019 & SPRING 2020 NURSE EXTERN PROGRAM
The Nurse Extern Program is a shadow program designed for students in their final year of an accredited RN program. We are currently accepting applications for our Winter 2019 and Spring 2020 programs.
Winter 2019 Program :
· December 16 th – January 11 th
· Requires a full time schedule for 4 weeks, including orientation the first week
Spring 2019 program :
· January 6 th – April 11 th
· Requires 1 shift per week for 14 weeks, including orientation the first week (orientation may be completed the week of December 16 th if there is a conflict with your school schedule)
Application window for both programs is
September 1 st - 30 th
Please submit an application if you would like to be considered for either program; applications will only be accepted during this window. Applications will be reviewed in October, at which time information regarding interviews will be communicated.
Ø Must be enrolled in or entering into the final year of an accredited RN program at the time the program begins.
Ø Must be available to work a full-time schedule for 4 weeks for the Winter 2019 program or a part-time schedule (1 shift/week) for 14 weeks for the Spring 2020 program.
Ø Must be flexible with unit placement- externs are placed in almost all areas within the hospital.
Ø Must be flexible with shifts- the extern program is a paid program and includes differentials for evenings/nights/weekends.
Ø Only one externship allowed per individual (preference for the Winter or Spring program will be discussed during the interview process).
Nurse Extern Position Description:
Job Summary: Designed for students in their final year of a Registered Nurse Program. The Extern will shadow an RN for a set period of time.
Education: Student in or entering their final year of an accredited Registered Nurse Program
Work Experience: 0-6 months
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Ability to use independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established
